Privacy
Last updated: November 6, 2026
Shellvane is built to work without knowing who you are: no account, no cookies, no tracking, no advertising. This page says exactly what reaches us and why.
Who is responsible
The controller of the data described here is Claudio Sturiale.
The app
Your hosts, settings, keys and passwords stay on your computer; secrets are encrypted in the vault. The app checks for updates (once a day unless you turn it off) and downloads the updates you accept from the releases of the project's public repository on GitHub, which receives your IP address under its own privacy statement; it contacts termoraplus.com only to install a gallery item or a plugin you choose. These requests carry only the app's version and your system (for example Shellvane/1.2.0 (windows/amd64)); there is no identifier of you or of your computer. Sync and team storage, if you set them up, go to the services you choose, end-to-end encrypted.
The website
The website uses no cookies, no analytics service and no third-party content; only the download page asks GitHub, from your browser, for the latest release and its files. Like every web server, it receives your IP address with each request: the address is cut before it is written (the last part of an IPv4 address and everything after the first 48 bits of an IPv6 address are removed), and the log keeps only the page or file, the time, the browser's description and the host name of the site that linked to us. From this anonymized log we count page views and the gallery items and plugins installed; downloads and active versions are counted from the download totals GitHub shows for each release file. The anonymized log is kept for 24 months.
Why
To keep the website secure and to know how many people use Shellvane and which versions, so we can plan updates (legitimate interest, art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Nothing is sold or shared, and nothing is used to profile anyone.
Donations
Donations go through the platform you choose (GitHub Sponsors, Open Collective, Ko-fi), which processes them under its own privacy policy. We see only what the platform shows us, such as your name if you make it public, and keep it as long as the law requires for donations received.
Your rights
You can ask for access, correction or deletion of personal data we hold, object to its processing, and complain to your data protection authority (in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, garanteprivacy.it).
